Ever since I can remember I've been a Skittles fanatic. I love Skittles.
Its a strange attraction. I used to complain about M&M's because they never stuck to their promise. 'Melts in you mouth, not in your hand'. For some reason, they always melted in my hands. I don't know why. Maybe it was the grubby child hands that never seem to stop sweating. But I also didn't like the plain chocolate ones. I thought they taste weird....even today I avoid them and rush straight for the peanut ones.
But, Skittles, that's something I can deal with. I think its the fruit. I like fruity candy. It tastes good to me. But I loved Skittles. I loved the way they would turn white after you sucked on them. I loved the way they would make you hands turn rainbow-ey if you held them in you palm long enough.
Yep, Its always been about Skittles.
Being so passionate about the classic original flavours, I'm probably the most biased person in the world about different Skittle flavours. I can deal with the blue and purple packets....I like those. They were novelty when I was young, and Skittles put out really great different flavours there. The major fall was the Sours. What in God's name was that about? Sour Skittles? They're already sour. They're fruity. Its not really something that you can do, to take something perfectly fine and change it. I tired it though. Sometimes change is good. It wasn't this time. Not only were they not right, they made my tongue numb for about a week, which should only happen after you've eaten an entire packet of Lemon Warheads (the original hard candies...none of this gummie stuff).
In the Cafeteria, at lunch, they sell king size candy bars, and low and behold, Skittles. Impulse grab. But, what is this? Can this be? Strawberry Ice Cream Flavour....Limited time. For the love of God, I certainly hope its for a limited time. By changing the one flavour, you might as well change the whole packet. Not only does this new flavour carry a foreign taste to the candy, its all wrong. You pour the little droplets into your hand and you're greeted by, not a stark red the blends so well in with the orange, purple, green and yellow, but this pastel pink that you might see on a babies walls. Argh. Make it stop.
All I ask is that they bring back that red. The red that I would search to couch for. The red that makes Skittles, Skittles. Bring back the Strawberry.
Give me my rainbow back.
Although saying that now makes me sound Gay. And one might wonder why I harp on this so much. Its my childhood. People remember Mallowmars and Marathon Bars, I remember Skittles. I remember Skittles in the theatre with my parents, watching Dumbo. Its just special.
So please, Mr Mars, Give me back my rainbow.
